Two Words

High oil and gas prices sparked a 27% increase in fourth-quarter profit and nearly $100 billion in revenue for Exxon Mobil Corp., the company said Monday.
Disgusting
"We recognize that consumers worldwide want and need reliable supplies of affordable energy -- to fuel their vehicles, light and heat their homes and run their businesses," [CEO Rex Tillerson] said. "Our strong financial results will continue to allow us to make significant, long-term investments required to do our part in meeting the world's energy needs."

It has been said that we import much of our oil in the form of finished products. By buying less of just about any consumer product, you are saving energy, since it takes so much energy to manufacture and transport from China.

never thought about it that way, but, yeah, makes sense.

I barely buy anything these days. But, any which way you look at it, these guys are exploiting the hell out of us. They have us all by the cojones and they're milking us dry.

Energy is one of the industries that should be public or at least non-profit (i.e., funded by interest-free capital), along with healthcare, insurance, mass transit and other basic necessities.

Funny, I just had a similar discussion regarding this topic with a coworker earlier today... and I have to ask again: if oil/ energy is SO important to the health/ well being of the country... why is it not a government enterprise? I mean, it seems rather sick to me that these companies should be enjoying record profits at the gross expense of the people of this country.

First, they gained control of our money supply.

Then, right after they bought our legislators, they bought all the oil fields and coal mines. And they've been privatizing every other industry they could lay their hands on since then.

It's an abomination. A healthy economy is one in which all citizens share freely in the prosperity of its resources and industries according to their labor and ingenuity, not parceled and rationed through oppressive control and by virtue of privilege.

This cannot last much longer. I just watched a talk on CSPAN where some very prominent and well-spoken intellectuals tore into GW like a chain-saw. I think he's on the verge of impeachment.
