she died defending our freedoms

Did she die in Iraq?

No.

Did she die in Afghanistan?

No.

Did she carry a gun?

Again, no.

Armed only with her convictions and the courage to defend them, she walked quietly with her child down a street in California.

As a pious Muslim woman, she never left home without her hijab, the traditional head scarf worn by Muslim women. She was proud of her hijab.

In the aftermath of the attacks of September 11, 2001, some of her friends and relatives, afraid of reprisal attacks, took off their hijabs. Alia encouraged them not to compromise their religion, especially when they had nothing to do with those crimes.

As for herself, she told them that she would never take off her hijab, even if someone put a gun to her head demanding that she do so. Alia said that her hijab was her flag.

She could not have known as she began the fateful walk to her children’s school last Thursday that her path would cross that of a lone gunman who in a single act of mindless violence would bring a close to a life of dedication and service.

She could not have known that her grandfather’s words were so close to fulfillment. She could not have known that she would soon die defending her flag.
The author wrote a moving piece in her memory. But, what Alia Ansari died defending was - not her flag - but our freedom.

In defending her freedom to practice her religion, Alia Ansari died defending what America is all about.

Bush drones on forever about sending our troops abroad to 'protect our freedoms' but he's nothing but a miserable snake and a LIAR - people don't 'defend' freedom by conducting pre-emptive wars - people 'defend' freedom by exercising it.

By not giving in to fear and intimidation and doing what it is their right to do.

By calling a spade a spade when they see it, and calling a murderer a murderer - though he might threaten to exact revenge.

William Wallace defended freedom when he refused to pledge allegience to a man who called himself 'king'.

Rosa Parks defended freedom when she sat in the front of the bus.

Martin Luther King defended freedom from his jail cell in Birmingham.

History's list of freedom fighters is long, each one inspiring another to defend the flame that burns inside us all.
Among the believers are those who have been true to their covenant to God. Among them are those who have given their lives, others patiently wait their turn, having never weakened in their resolve. (33:23)
Alia Ansari is now among them.

Thank you for posting on this. Rick, you're a degenerate and a sick bastard for comparing the victim to her murderer, spare us the atheist militant act. Most wars have nothing to do with religion, study the history of communism for starters and you may learn something.

Thank you for posting this!

As you said, she also died for our freedom. She was a beautiful woman, and I hope to have the same strength as she did. Even after her death, her family is asking for the one who killed her not to be executed because it will not bring her back and she is in a place near to God now and that is the only thing that is important.

Alia, you are an example for us all.

no, rick, each are NOT both ends of the same religious spectrum.

you're simply brainwashed by the grostesquely immoral push by Zionists to de-legitimize everyone's perception of the only remaining moral force on earth - RELIGION.

Whether they're Muslim, Christian, or Jew - the vast majority of God-fearing people are not homicidal maniacs, but people who believe in justice, peace, and equality.

The criminal who killed this woman was nothing but a murderous madman.

She, on the other hand, was a courageous human being, simply defending her right to do with her own person as she wills. She harmed no one and you couldn't be more wrong in your characterization of her conduct, her beliefs, and her character.

It's Zionists and other money-grubbing cultists who want nothing more than to pit everyone against 'religion' in order to de-legitimize the morality that religion represents.

I don't mean you - you're simply mistaken.

Don't you understand - God is the only thing that makes morality so URGENT.

If God exists, then people better get with it, or else.

If God does not exist - as Zionists and other money (and power) hungry criminals would have us believe - then only MIGHT is RIGHT; the STRONG devour the WEAK; and ANYTHING goes.

Qrswave replied for me it seems. I don't know Rick determined that her murderer was a religious fanatic and not somebody utterly ignorant and clueless like himself. Not particularly interested in the lazy atheist spin, particularly when they use Bush words as an example of a genuine person of faith.

Right on qrswave! You explained everything excellently!

And yes, dr. maxtor, I don't know how he figured that this man belonged to a religious group. Assumptions as usual...

I checked out your new location of Truth Will Set YOu Free, and it looks great. Good job! It looks much more appealing and streamlined. I'll be updating my links soon.

It should be apparent to everyone that anything goes. We don't need a deity to decide that evil is evil. Thus, people like me, and people with opposing religious beliefs, can see that evil is evil and good is good and make the decision between hurting people, helping people, and neglecting people.

It's not a 2 sided situation on the existence of a deity. As far as whether or not people will start getting with it, it doesn't really matter whether or not a god exists: It matters whether or not people can decide to believe in it, considering that people very clearly are required to believe without proof. If on the other hand god does not exist, then people have to continue to be responsible for everything on their own and become a race that can perpetuate itself off the desire to do good instead of out of fear of a deity. Kind of like the way that every decent person who hasn't believed in a deity has done since the beginning of human sentience.

"She was only a little less crazy than the person that shot her. Both were religious nuts and hopefully the world will wake up some day and realize all the suffering that religion has brought..."

You just debased her existence with your hideous rant.

=========

"Both are religious zealots both were likely vain and ignorant beliving that theirs is the only true way to salvation."

And there you go, you do it again.

=========

Now you say this:

"The intent of my post was to point out the stupidity of the whole mess. Not to debase her existence, I am sure she was a very nice person....."

I think you need to set aside your hateful atheistic attitude and go back to school and learn COMPREHENSION 101.

Come back in 5 years and maybe we can understand you better.

Kukai, what evidence do you have that the husband is involved? A Muslim woman is shot and you insist its an "honor crime" in order to raise the profile of Muslim political groups. Conspiracy theory alert! Wrong forum loser, this isnt little green footballs. Not only are you a racist degenerate but an ignorant idiot who has little respect for human life.
